The standard measurement using metrix measurement system for volume or the amount of liquid are litre and militres
1 litre ( l) is equivalent to 1000 mililitres (ml)
Conversion of Units
First, the teacher should explain to students that the larger units between litres and mililitres is litres. In order to convert the unit of measurement from a larger (litre) unit to the smaller ones (mililitres), the students MUST multiply the unit given in litre or litres by 1000 and vice versa.
Conversion from Litre to Mililitre
Example 1 : Calculate the unit in mililitres if the unit given in litre is 2 litres.
Remember that the given units in litre must be multiplied by 1000 then we get => 2 litres x 1000 = 2000 mililitres
Conversion from mililitres to litre
Example 2 :Calculate the unit in litre for 3000 mililitres
In this case, the question requires to convert a smaller measurement unit to a larger ones then we divide the unit with 1000 then we get => 3500 / 1000 = 3.0 litres
Note : Teacher should explain the concept of large and small units through the simple ways of how to differentiate which term refers to large unit and which term refers to a smaller unit of measurements. This learning concept can assist the students by inference using the word "mili" means small, tiny for mililitre and "large" connotes to litre.
